Meet the 2010 Board! |
Thursday 14 January, 2010 |
We have big plans for the new decade. But first, I would like you to meet the people behind the name.
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce the board members of State of Jefferson Quarter Horse Association.
My name is Susan McLeod and this is my second term as SJQHA President. I became a very proud horse owner many moons ago when I was 10. I immediately joined Joan Mayfields 4-H club, Lake Creek Rancheros, and started my lifelong obsession with horses. I have had such fun over the years showing my home trained and home grown horses. I'll never forget the thrill of my first AQHA point. I hope SJQHA can help you achieve your dreams too.
Heather Thrapp-Mauck is serving as our 2010 Vice President. Horses are not just a hobby for Heather; she is an AQHA Professional Horseman, an AQHA Director (Oregon) and has served countless years on the boards of SJQHA and Oregon Quarter Horse Association. She has also been the Youth Advisor for both SJQHA and OQHA. If that isn't enough, she was also crowned the All American Quarter Horse Congress Queeen. She enjoys teaching and training. Her barn is known affectionately as "Camp Heather". She has trained/coached riders to Championships at 4-H County Fairs and Year End Awards at countless open show series. Her students have also been extremely successful at AQHA shows. They have earned ROMs, Regional Championships, OQHA High Point Youth saddles, numerous OQHA year end awards and have qualified for the AQHYA World Show. Heather has also ridden many horses to their ROM and OQHA High Point Open Horse awards. In addition to her work with SJQHA and AQHA, Heather is working with the Jackson County 4-H Horse Program.
SJQHA Secretary: Juanita Gillespie. Where would we be without you? Juanita has been our secretary for many, many years. She is involved with several local horse clubs. Juanita and her husband, Wayne, bred race horses for many years and are very involved with the horse racing at Josephine County. Juanita makes sure the bills get paid, taxes are filed, and we meet our deadlines when working with AQHA.
Larry & Roseann Rogers have been part of SJQHA for several years now. Their passion is Halter horses. They have World Class Quarter Horses and Appaloosas. They appreciate the beauty of a halter horse and the beauty of COLOR! They have a fine selection of buckskins and palominos and would love to have you visit their horses on their website or in person!
Susan Moore is another board member that has been involved with horses at many levels. She was a very active leader of a horse 4-H club for many years. She worked very hard to introduce reining to the Jackson County 4-H Horse Program. Susan and her husband, Howard, have also been involved with SJQHA for many years. They have raised several nice reining bred horses and Susan has been quite successful showing her mare. In 2008 Susan qualified and competed at the World Show in Amateur Reining. In 2009 she achieved her long term goal of earning her Superior.
Rachel Moore grew up in SJQHA. She started in 4-H and under the guidance of Heather Thrapp, earned many Champions. She started showing in Novice Youth, then AQHA Youth classes. Rachel showed all around - with her mare, Bid A Bye Page, she competed in halter, showmanship, english, western, trail, and sometimes reining and barrels. Rachel sold "Allie" when she started college and is currently horseless. Rachel has also been crowned the All American Quarter Horse Congress Queen. Rachel was our show secretary in 2009. She did such a good job, we are happy she will be behind the desk in 2010.
Tonya Bowers is in her second year on the board of SJQHA. "Back in the day" Tonya rode dressage. She currently enjoys tail riding and showing in trail and western pleasure. Tonya appreciates the quiet, trainable mind of her Quarter Horse mare and Solid Color Paint mare. She has put in the miles and time it takes to make a great trail horse, in and out of the arena.
Roseann Snapp has joined the board this year. Roseann has a palomino quarter horse gelding who is officially 32 years old now. She loved showing him in open shows when he was younger. Nugget has been retired for many years now and Roseann has a great time taking her other Quarter Horse, Joe, out on the trail. Roseann still enjoys horse shows, but now she is in the middle of the show pen as a ring steward for the judge.
Shelly Ayres is also new to the board this year. Another member of Lake Creek Rancheros, Shelly showed in 4-H and open shows as a youth. After college, she jumped back into horse showing for 2 or 3 years. After 10 years away from horse ownership a horse crazy daughter brought a very happy Shelly back into the horse world. Heather Thrapp Mauck found the perfect horse for Shelly and Kinsey - Kinsey to show and Shelly to watch. Approximately 10 months after the purchase of Trulane, a dream came true for Shelly and she became the owner of Sonnys Traffic Cop aka Kramer. Since then mother and daughter have been having a blast showing at open shows. They hope an AQHA show is in their future.
I am so proud of our board. We are people who love the beauty of a halter horse, the athletics of a reining horse, the versatility of the all around horse and the dependabilty of a trail horse. We have different backgrounds, different dreams and goals. We hope we are a good representative of you.
